Mission Statement

The mission of the Learning Commons is to provide intellectual and physical access to materials; to provide instruction that fosters competence and stimulates interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas; and to collaborate with other educators to design learning strategies and opportunities to meet the needs of individual students.

Visiting the Learning Commons

  • The Learning Commons is open from 7:50 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. every school day. 
  • A group of six or more from a class must be accompanied by the teacher. 
  • Those coming to the Learning Commons without a teacher must have a valid hall pass. 

Facilities and Materials

  • Over 20,000 books and other print materials.
  • Access to Chromebooks and technology resources.
  • Destiny/Book Nook catalog to locate books and resources.
  • Over 1,800 audiovisual materials which include DVDs and audio books.
  • Access to hundreds of digital audiobooks.
  • Collaborative group spaces for learning.
  • Technology resources for students and teachers.

Checking Out Materials

  • Students may check out five items at a time. 
  • Books may be checked out for a two-week period.
  • Students are responsible for the safe return of all books and resources.
  • Books are automatically marked lost after an overdue period of 30-days. 
  • Damaged and lost book fees are the responsibility of the student that checked it out.
  • Lost Book Fees will be reversed if the book is returned.  
  • Certain extracurricular privileges will be lost if books are not returned or fines not paid within a reasonable time.

Technology Check Outs

  • Students may check out one Chromebook and one charger to use throughout the school year. 
  • The District Acceptable User Agreement must be signed by parents in the Infinite Campus portal BEFORE devices can be taken home.
  • Students are responsible for the safe return of all Chromebooks and chargers at the end of the school year.
  • Damaged devices should be turned in for repair when damages are noticed. A loaner device will be issued for student to use while device is in for repair.
  • Damaged and lost technology fees will be charged to the student based on the schedule on the District AUA.
  • Lost Technology Fees will be reversed if the undamaged device is returned in good working order.  
  • Certain extracurricular privileges will be lost if devices are not returned or fines not paid within a reasonable time.
